Small Group Meeting
I sat with Dr. Dodson in a small group to further explain the college experience at Lamar. We went over the honors hand book more in depth to understand the complexities of the honors program. It was a great experience getting to know the other students and understanding the support the Honors College has for its students.

ePortfolio Construction
I built my first page through weebly in order to keep track of my honors points. This is a great way to keep track of my college experience. I have submitted my link to the honors college.

Interstellar Lecture
Theoretical Physicist and Nobel laureate Kip Thorne attended Lamar University to explain the general sciences that were present in the movie Interstellar. A major theme that he discussed came from his work with black holes, which seemed to intrigue the vast audience that filled the auditorium.

REDTalk: You Booze, You Lose
With college life sometimes being drastically different than high school, myself and my roommate decided to attend this REDTalk to explore how to deal with certain aspects of this new lifestyle. The organizers put on a great presentation with lots of statistics, and even had a university police officer explain certain situations they encounter every semester. We even got to split up into small groups and perform experiments such as wearing drunk goggles that impair our vision. Overall the event was very informative and provided great examples that we learn from while living on campus.

Syrian Refugee Lecture
Dr. M.K. Hamza, who is a Lamar faculty member, lectured on his relatively knew cognitive disease known as the Human Devastation Syndrome. This lecture opened my eyes to the privileges we take for granted, because a lot of the testimonies that were cited were of children our own age losing families and living through severe conditions we could never imagine.

AIChE High School Outreach
For this event, AIChE attended the high school that I graduated from to give some information to the students in the STEM engineering classes. We talked to a range of students from sophomores to seniors about the various aspects that chemical engineering entails. Overall, this provided an opportunity to give back to the community that I came from and interact with familiar faces that had a lasting impact on me.

AIChE Crawfish Boil
Every spring AIChE hosts their crawfish boil for the chemical engineering students attending Lamar. This event was amazing, it was a great chance to meet and introduce yourself to future professors and enjoy some delicious food. They also announced the organization's positions for the next year so we could get an idea of who would be running AIChE.

HSA End of the Semester Party
It was a great time taking a break from all of the stress of finals and playing a few games like volleyball and throwing the football around in the pool. We also held a little surprise for Ms. Maxwell as she was taking on a new position within the University. Overall the event was just a chance to unwind after a stress 18-hour packed semester. The best part was catching up with those HSA friends that you might not see everyday and seeing what everyone had planned for the summer.

Week of Welcome Casino Night
Lamar's CAB organization provided the students with a late night at the set in which a professional company decorated the ball room for a casino night. This provided us with a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends before the stress of the semester really began. Overall this was a very fun event and the dealers were super friendly and helpful.

AIChE Welcome Back BBQ
Our AIChE group sponsored a back to school BBQ lunch in front of Cherry, again for the chemical engineering students. It was a great time to catch up with some people like my roommate who flew home to Chicago for the summer and his friends as well. Not to mention, the BBQ we have through Dr. Benson and AIChE is always amazing.

CITGO Info Session
Attending this info session allowed myself to become familiar with future recruiters, as well as gather some information on CITGO and if the company would be a possibility in pursuing an internship. Also, the event was a joint venture between ASME and AIChE so CITGO brought multiple engineers to talk about their daily activities and what working at the company was like. These events are essential in future job endeavors and networking for future opportunities.

AIChE Career Fair Prep
At this event, older chemical engineering students organized a panel to discuss how to stand out at career fairs, resume help, and tips on landing our first internships. It was a really great opportunity to get a feel for these career fairs, especially since it would be my first one. It also provided a broad experience range from the students, in which I looked at what companies were keen on hiring Lamar's students.

Peer Mentor/Mentee Mixer
This semester I volunteered to become a peer mentor for an incoming freshman. I know how much of a help my honors mentor was, so I definitely wanted to help out if I could. My mentee I was assigned was great, we see each other all around campus and always stop for a little conversation. I think the best aspect of having these mentors is being able to ask questions about courses/professors for the following semester. Overall my experience was great and I hope I can continue in this position for more semesters to come.

ExxonMobil Info Session
Attending this info session was very important to me because I see Exxon as a major company inside the energy industry. This info session by far had the most employees in attendance to talk with us students which really stood out to me. Overall, this info session turned into a great networking experience because I recognized some of those employees at the career fair and in my interview later on.

Chevron Phillips Info Session
Another joint venture between ASME and AIChE, I would say this event had the most students in attendance. The presentation was very interesting and the employees emphasized the family atmosphere within their respected cites. I can confidently say that CP-Chem became one of my top companies that I wanted to intern with, they had great locations and the employees seemed proud to work there.

University Physics Competition
For this competition, myself and two other students were tasked with a problem and had to come up with a solution and then prove our results in a paper, all within 48 hours. For this year, my team tackled how to protect astronauts from radiation in space on a voyage to Mars. In our conclusive paper, we obtained information on the materials, conducted a cost assessment, weight added to the space craft, and even added protective clothing for the astronauts during intense levels of radiation. This competition was brutal because of the time constraint, we spent about 30 hours on the project within two days and finished it Sunday at 3 A.M.

HSA End of the Semester Party
With the end of the fall semester, I now had made even more relationships with the people inside the Honors College and it was a great time having everyone hanging out together. As it was getting quite cold, the fire and s'mores were the perfect events to bring everyone around and stimulate conversations between one another. After the food we jumped back into the rec and played ping pong for a while waiting for everyone to finish with their food. These parties have been a blast so far, and I hope they continue.

AIChE November Social
This cookie decorating event turned out a lot better than anyone expected, there were about 15 members there continuously. Being able to decorate your own personal cookies while watching the Grinch was a great time. It also brought everyone closer because conversations keep stimulating throughout the whole room. The event even went past schedule because everyone was having a good time enjoying everyone's company.

AIChE High School Outreach
For this outreach, our Lamar AIChE chapter took a trip over to Lumberton High School to give some presentations over chemical engineering and Lamar's engineering program. The presentation consisted of internship experience, our program, scholarship opportunities, and how Lamar connects its students with potential job opportunities. Overall, this group of students provided a fun atmosphere as well as serious interests into the chemical engineering field.

AIChE High School Outreach
With this outreach, we went to Kelly High School to again talk about chemical engineering and Lamar's program. For this event however, we were able to take about 6 or 7 of our AIChE members. This outreach event was fantastic, from the questions, to the presentation, to interacting with the students as well. These students also stayed after school for our presentation, so we gathered it would be students who are genuinely interested in the field as well as Lamar. This event was probably my favorite so far because of the fun atmosphere we had the whole time.

Donuts With the Dean
To welcome us back to campus, the Honors College hosted one of their famous donuts with the dean events. The idea for these events is to connect with other honors students, faculty of the Honors College, and explore the "donut subculture" as Dr. Dodson famously says.

Bridge City High School Outreach
Getting to participate in an outreach event to your Alma Mater is quite fun, I was able to connect with old friends, teachers, and other staff that I had not seen in a long time. Furthermore, the library was packed with students so leading the presentation felt even better. We were able to support Lamar and it's opportunities, as well as articulate the significance of a Chemical Engineering degree from this institution. Myself and my partner both had a great time and we look forward to continuing these events and educating young minds.

Lamar LITE Camp
Having the privilege to educate younger kids about a subject that I am passionate about has always been a fun hobby of mine. During this event, myself and a partner showcased some very elementary Chemical Engineering processes to younger kids who were stuck inside all summer due to COVID-19. This also allowed us to connect with the next generation of great engineers that will hopefully progress through Lamar.

Operation Blessing - Hurricane Relief
The AIChE organization at Lamar University was presented with a unique opportunity this year when Hurricane Laura swept through Louisiana. I heard about this opportunity through another organization and immediately knew I wanted to help out as much as I could. This led myself, and many other AIChE members over to Lake Charles where we spent the entire day helping two families clean after a devastating event.

This event was a great way to showcase AIChE and the benefits that being a member has to offer. We presented to other engineering students about the possibilities that being in our organization has to offer and the successes of our previous members. Overall, it was a great event and opportunity to market our organization to the students on campus.
